CRÉATION DES DÉCORATIONS POUR LES ÉDIFICES PUBLICS AU CAMEROUN

Abstract

Les édifices publics au Cameroun se démarquent aussi bien par leurs imposantes structures, que par leurs fonctions. Ce sont des lieux régulièrement fréquentés car ils hébergent les institutions étatiques. La décoration de leurs façades principales, lorsqu’elles ne sont pas enjolivées par des signes, des symboles et des éléments culturels, ne constitue pas un signe indicatif, un repérage, un langage ainsi qu’un facteur important dans le processus d’esthétisation du bâtiment et de communication avec les usagers. En définissant la nature de l’espace architectural dans lequel s’est développée notre recherche, il a été de prime abord question, de présenter les enjeux et l’importance du décor architectural. Cette phase nous a conduit à un regard distinct et critique sur la sémiotique de la décoration des façades des édifices publics sur notre terrain d’étude. Partant des contextes sociaux, économiques et culturels, nous avons conçu des décorations en céramique qui s’inspirent des différents thèmes liés au phénomène du multiculturalisme des populations en milieu urbain ainsi qu’à une réinterprétation des différentes formes traditionnelles. Les résultats sont des tesselles de céramique recouvrant les édifices publics et détaillant les richesses culturelles du Cameroun. Celles-ci mettent en exergue un mélange traditionnel et moderne. Nous implémentons ainsi dans le décor architectural au Cameroun, une véritable approche artistique à travers un décor sensoriel, didactique et esthétique.

Public buildings in Cameroon are distinguished both by their impressive structures and their functions. They are regularly visited places because they host state institutions. The decoration of their main walls, when they are not beautified by signs, symbols and cultural elements, is not an indicative sign, a marker, a language and an important factor in the process of aesthetisation of the building and communication with the users. In setting out the nature of the architectural space in which our research was carried out, it was in the first order to present the issues and the importance of the architectural decoration. This phase led us to a distinctive and critical view of the semiotics of decoration on the walls of public buildings in our field of study. Based on the social, economic and cultural contexts, we conceived ceramic decorations inspired by the different themes linked to the phenomenon of multiculturalism of populations in urban environments and a reassessment of the different traditional forms. The results are ceramic tiles covering public buildings and depicting the cultural values of Cameroon. These tiles show a combination of the traditional and modern. We are therefore implementing a genuine artistic approach through a sensorial, didactic and aesthetic decor in the architecture of Cameroon.
